The title of the play is Our Town which was published by Coward McCann Inc. in 1938. It tkaes place over a duration of several years, but mostly in the early 1900s. Our town is Grover's Corners, New Hampshire, a small town just over the lin of Massachusetts. Throughout the play, many different emotions and moods are expressed. For the most part, the play has a calm, day-to-day tone with the exeption of the climax.

It is only after Emily revisits the arth as a spirtit that she realizes that humans fail to appreciate the beauty of life, don't cherish the joys of birth, family ties, flowers, warm breakfasts, education, and thousands of other things that are taken for granted. Instead, they fret about the most irrelevant matters and fail to relate to one another. Death, therefore, becomes the healer that ends the pain and conflict of living.
