This speech teaches many things about the Native Americans. Red Cloud was a powerful and respected leader. His speech taught people that the Native Americans were making a large effort to make peace and it was the whites who continued the violence. People made stereotypes about Native Americans without knowing the truth. Red Cloud uncovered the truth in hopes of stopping further mistreatment.
