of "no one wounds me with impunity." Ironically, the narrator claims, "I must not punish, but punish with impunity" (line 1). Only Poe could have pulled off this irony and due to his unique phrases, elaboration's, and character roles, this story has a tone and setting that would not have been achieved otherwise.
