In The Crucible, Arthur Miller highlights how the adult populace of Salem was just a responsible for the witch trials as were the girls, under the manipulative control of Abigail. The consequences of the actions made extended well past their own existences and into the lives of the innocent. The witchcraft was not the catalyst though, as the inevitable quarrels in the community became the metaphorical finger that pushed the dominos over.
