There are other hints that, by the end, Nick was starting to see Gatsby as a person who, while being a fake just like the rest of them, was actually honorable - a true friend. "The lawn and drive had been crowded with those who guessed at his corruption - and he stood on those steps, concealing his incorruptible dream, as he waved them good-by" (155).
