Despite all these factors, Gatsby could not see that his dream was never going to eventuate. He had too many high expectations of what was to come and in reality he was not able to expect everything to go his way. His dream was so simple and clear-cut in his mind that he set himself up for failure by looking past the underlying factors that would not allow his dream to be fulfilled.
