the government. USA overreacted and sent in 500,000 troops! Allies were asked to send troops. NZ sent engineers and medics but that was not enough. Finally, after pressure, 2 companies of infantry and an artillery unit were sent. Troops were pulled out in 1972 after anti-war demonstrations.
NZ has helped out many times in the years between 1945 and 1985. This was mainly because of the Canberra pact and other documents where NZ has upheld her part of the deal.
