Effect of the halogen atom on the rate of hydrolysis

Aim: to find the rate at which different halogenoalkanes hydrolyse to form a sliver precipitate in silver nitrate solution.

Hypothesis: I think that 1-iodobutane will be the fastest to react followed by 1- bromobutane and then by 1-chlorobutane. This is because 1-iodobutane has the lowest bond energy out of the three and I think that this will make it easier for it to react with

Conclusion: from my results I can see that that 1-iodobutane is has the fastest rate of hydrolyses. This is because it formed a precipitate the fastest. This also proves my predication that the halogenoalkanes with the weakest bond energy will be the first to from a precipitate.
