Dimmesdale didn't really want to tell the truth of what he did but by hiding the secret he is suffering and feel guilty of not telling the truth. All Chillingworth want is to her Dimmesdale back but revenge is really not the way out, why not just let it go. This story demonstrates effects of the human spirit and teaches a good lesson.
