Only a few chosen of elect will be saved by good. Goodman obviously believes he is one of those chosen. All others will be damned for all eternity. That is how Goodman sees the other characters but that is okay because if the dream was real, that is how the other characters see themselves. Hawthorne did a great job of using character and symbol to give an understanding the of the Puritans and Original sin.
